Apprenticeship
What is an Apprenticeship?
“Earn while you learn” while completing on-the-job training and classroom instruction where the employer and instructors teach the skills of the specific occupation. Classroom instruction is usually taught at an area technical college while the on-the-job training occurs at the employer’s location. The term of training varies from 2-5 years depending upon program is completed.

Steps to becoming an Apprentice:
First, explore the field you want to learn and work in. Explore Joint Apprenticeship Committees (JAC) in WI and what JAC interests you on the Department of Workforce Development's (DWD) website.
There are 2 Sectors for Apprenticeships:
Construction Sector- Joint Apprenticeship Committee (JAC)
DWD website on JAC's
All Other Sectors- Sole Sponsor
DWD website on Sole Sponsors
Second, find an employer that will sponsor an Apprentice. The employer will then work with you, the Department of Workforce Development (DWD), and the Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards (BAS).
Or, contact the Joint Apprenticeship Committee (JAC) of interest. Complete any required testing and submit transcripts and/or other needed documents. This can lead to placement with an employer sponsor.
